Hack for Humanity

Taking place on Tuesday 20 January 2026, Hack for Humanity is a one-day event in which teams compete against each other to solve current, real-world problems using technology.  You will have the opportunity to meet current undergraduate students studying Computer Science, and be introduced to the world-class research related to Artificial Intelligence in Medicine at the University of Leeds.

In addition to solving a real world problem using technology & AI, you will take part in a campus tour, and enjoy lunch in the Student Refectory.

Activity Details

Open to Year 12 students studying Maths, Physics, and/or Computer Science at A-Level or equivalent, this is a brilliant opportunity to write about in your personal statement, and to discover more about the courses in the School of Computer Science.

What are the planned activities?

A timetable will be sent to you upon confirmation of your place, but a sample itinerary is below:

  • 09:30 - Arrival and Registration
  • 09:45 - Welcome and Introduction
  • 10:15 - Design Phase & GenAI Tools
  • 12:00 - Lunch & Campus Tour
  • 13:00 - Development Phase
  • 14:15 - Judging and Ambassador Q&A
  • 14:45 - Evaluation and departure

What are the requirements for the event?

To attend the event, you are required to be in year 12/ first year and studying Maths at A-Level or equivalent.

Where does the event take place?

Activities will be held in the School of Computer Science on the University of Leeds campus.
