Physics & Beyond: Powered by Curiosity

Group of engineering summer school students working on model of car

Join us on Thursday 18 December 2025, 9:30 - 14:45 for a campus event exploring Physics pathways at Post-16 and related careers.

This interactive day is for Year 10 students who have the potential to thrive in A-level Physics but might need that final spark of inspiration. It’s not aimed at the already-convinced physics enthusiasts but more for the curious, the capable, and the undecided.

The event is free of charge. Please ask students to bring a packed lunch with them.

Workshop details

Through interactive workshops, real-life stories, and engaging discussions, students will explore how problem-solving and creativity in physics and engineering can open doors to exciting careers in fields like mechanical engineering, computer science, robotics, architecture, environmental science and beyond.

Space to Learn Masterclass

Space to Learn is a UK-wide educational initiative funded by the UK Space Agency and delivered by the National Space Academy. this will be a fast-paced, hands-on science session exploring space topics like human space flight, satellites, and life in space.

Lego Particle Physics

Discover how the Universe began, from quarks to complex particles, in this hands-on session led by quantum physics researchers. Using Lego and real particle physics concepts, students explore the Big Bang and the building blocks of matter in a fun, accessible way.

The Blueprints of Life

Explore the art-meets-science of pattern formation by creating cyanotype prints inspired by biomaterials research. Participants will experiment with light and design to copy patterns found in living materials.

Leonardo's Dome Sweet Dome

Join us to build Leonardo’s Dome, an ingenious self-supporting structure inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s designs. Work together to assemble interlocking rods and discover the physics behind stability and geometry in action!

Satellite Science: Exploring Space Observation

Discover Earth from space! In this interactive workshop, students use real satellite data to explore how Earth observation helps us monitor our changing world. Find more learning resources at SatSchool.

What are the requirements for students selected to attend?

Teachers can book for groups of 15 students in Year 10, accompanied by at least one responsible adult.  We have capacity for 90 students total.

Where does the event take place?

Activities will be held in the School of Physics and Astronomy on the University of Leeds campus.
